LIMO’s industrial laser systems Activation Line IR unlocks new dimensions in materials and surface processing, and can both improve materials and surfaces while also making them compatible with new applications.
The technology uses long, narrow laser lines to process large areas uniformly and with high precision. Because processing takes place simultaneously, it also delivers a major productivity boost. Thanks to its scalability, the Activation Line IR is suitable for use in industrial production operations that process over 1 million m2 in area per year. With its ultra-compact design, the system is easily integrated into existing production lines (e.g., in in-line and roll-to-roll processes).
LIMO's Activation Line unlocks entirely new dimensions in the world of surface and coating functionalization, revolutionizing industrial production technologies across a wide range of different industries. It allows processing of a host of different surfaces and materials so that the electrical, mechanical and optical properties of functional layers can be activated, optimized, or removed with defined precision.
The optical beam delivery and beam shaping system Activation Line UV-L750 combines up to 12 high energy multimode UV-DPSSL into a single ultra-homogenous line beam focus for UV LLO (laser lift-off) or SLA (solid-state laser annealing) of e.g. flexible OLED displays. The integrated optical beam transformation system enables not only a high brightness Gaussian or Super-Gaussian intensity profile with down to 20µm line width, but also increases 10 times the depth of focus by reducing the M² = 25 of DPSSL sources into a M² = 3 line beam profile with ultra-homogeneous intensity distribution. The LIMO beam transformation technology converts the UV DPSSLs into a single high performing and 4D-stabilised laser beam profile. The maintenance free optical design using free-form micro-optics made of Fused Silica enables an uptime > 95 % and the lowest total cost of ownership in its fields of applications.
The Fast-Axis Collimator (FAC) lens is the first and most important optical component of high-power diode laser systems. The large numerical aperture allows the collimation of the entire diode power with best beam quality. The lenses are manufactured from high-quality glass and have an acylindrical surface. The high transmission and the good collimation properties guarantee best beam transformation efficiency for diode lasers.
For ultra-high power emitters up to 500 W per bar, LIMO offers FACs from ultra-pure Fused Silica. This glass absorbs virtually no laser light, which means that hardly any heating takes place, even in the case of high laser outputs.
LIMO produces optical components in a wafer-based batch process, making it possible to cost-effectively manufacture several thousand lenses in a single step. Our production process is also numerically controlled and monitored. This allows series production of the smallest micro-optics to large optical components and lens arrays (substrate size of up to 300 x 350 mm²) that deliver consistently high quality.
LIMOs Industrial Laser Systems (ILS) are used for welding of plastics as well as in many other manufacturing processes (e.g. annealing, tempering or soldering). The specification of the product follows the application targets.
The ILS allows the processing of very complex plastic parts. Components with many different geometries can be addressed. These can be very small and fragile parts such as membranes with many welding points, or large-scale automotive parts. The ILS is a complete solution, including driver, cooling, fibers, process head and a control unit. Due to its 19’’ design, it can be easily integrated into existing production lines. The ILS can be used for contour welding, simultaneous welding, mask welding and quasi-simultaneous welding and therefore covers the entire field of laser transmission welding. The welding process is monitored by an integrated measurement and control system. Processing data are stored to enable track and trace. This leads to a complete real-time quality assurance.

High quality micro-optics are key components in beam shaping of diode lasers - the optics assure that all laser power is transferred to the target in a high quality beam. The Beam Transformation System (BTS) is a central part for free beam lasers to generate a symmetrical beam as well as for the fiber coupling of bars.
LIMO offers BTS for typical bar pitches of 0.5, 0.4 down to 0.2 mm with high quality as cost-effective standards. For a small pitch like 0.2 mm the FAC needs to be very thin with small focal length. Here LIMO uses very high index glass with n>1.9 which results in highest FAC collimation quality. Additionally, for very high bar powers >300 W a Fused Silica BTS with lowest absorption is available. LIMOs different BTS designs can be applied to all relevant wavelengths between 400 – 2000 nm (blue to NIR wavelength region). A low-absorbing coating completes the superior product performance.
