Founders

After 21 years full of successful fundamental research and development in University of Stuttgart during which they had been responsible for laser sources and for material treatment techniques, respectively, Adolf Giesen (left) and Friedrich Dausinger (right) founded the startup company Dausinger + Giesen GmbH with the aim to promote the disk laser technology.

Apl. Prof. Dr. Friedrich Dausinger´s background in manufacturing with lasers acquired in industry and in university helps to develop lasers to the needs of customers. He is well known in the laser community for his contributions to energy coupling, welding of Al and micro machining with short and ultrashort laser pulses. He coordinated two German research programs offering federal funding for the development and the application of ultra short pulsed lasers (FST and Femtonik). He is fellow of the Laser Institute of America (LIA) and corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Engineering Sciences.

Privatdozent Dr. Adolf Giesen is director of the DLR Institute of Technical Physics in Stuttgart dealing with laser development for defense and civil applications. He is supporting D+G by consulting and networking.

Helical Drilling Optic

With our trepanning optic for drilling with highest precision, micromachining can be brought to its edge. Our trepanning optic is a tool for efficient production of high-precision holes with well-defined geometry by means of helical drilling.

Our trepanning optic is characterized by its high accuracy and simple adjustment. Hole geometries with advanced complexity can be achieved in addition to cylindrical or conical holes with sharp edged entrances and exits.

Another application of a helical drilling optic is high precision cutting. Since the inclination angle can be chosen, the edge angle can be adjusted according to the applications needs. Since "normal" cutting has a certain edge angle always, this edge angle can be adjusted with the helical drilling optic. And because the inclination angle can be adjusted by PLC this angle can be maintained for all contours.

Helical Drilling Process

Fast and ultrafast lasers are ideal tools for drilling holes. Small holes. This image shows 400µ ø. The focal diameter is 20µ with the used set up. Therefore the material in the middle is still visible.

    The disk laser was invented more than 20 years ago by our partner Dr. Adolf Giesen and his coworkers at University of Stuttgart. Due to its advantageous cooling properties, disk laser technology offers unique combinations of power, pulse energy and beam quality, beneficial for various industrial applications and scientific research fields, e.g.:
