We report the observation of enhanced nonlinear optical effects in ZnO channelwaveguides. Our research is focused on obtaining waveguides with enhancednonlinear properties. We demonstrate spectral broadening using femtosecondoptical pulses at a wavelength of 840 nm. We obtained a maximum of six-foldbroadening. Spectral features characteristic of SPM were appreciated. Wecalculated the nonlinear parameter gamma, obtaining values up to 13.9 W-1m-1.It represents more than 1300 times the gamma of a highly nonlinear fiber.Single-crystal ZnO showed to be a promising material for optical waveguidesintended for nonlinear applications.
